Bird Management

McCloud Services encounters many unfortunate situations in which pest birds have caused structural damage to a facility, destroyed a property, contaminated products, and posed health risks to employees, customers, and the community at large. We design and implement our bird management and exclusion services to resolve these critical issues created by pest birds, including pigeons, seagulls, and starlings.

We can also provide tips to make your facility less bird-friendly by eliminating the conditions that make it attractive to pest birds in the first place.

Effective Bird Management & Exclusion Services

Our bird management services resolve pest bird problems in all environments. We use a multi-faceted plan implemented in stages that is flexible in terms of bird population behavior and time of year. Sometimes, simply altering the environmental conditions of the property can make your business less pest-bird friendly.

However, in more complex situations, managing pest birds must be viewed as a puzzle that impacts the large scope of the facility.

Bird Management Solutions

Bird exclusion is a combination of netting and ledge modification products to prevent birds from nesting or landing on a structure.

Netting
Bird netting is one of the most versatile solutions for bird control, providing a discreet yet effective barrier against all types of nuisance birds without inflicting harm on the birds themselves. It can be used to exclude birds from overhangs, HVAC units, ledges, towers, and other areas. It is one of the most durable and long-term control methods. To reduce visibility, the netting material comes in different colors to match the surface where it is installed, providing a robust but discreet defense against pest birds.

BirdSlide®
BirdSlide® is a triangular shaped insert that can be capped and placed on ledges. The units are installed to run the length of a flat ledge or beam. They are designed so birds cannot land on the sloping diagonal of the insert. BirdSlide can be painted to match the surface where applied and can be made to blend well with other structural elements.

Charged Wire
Bird-Shock Flex-Track™ is a comprehensive family of parts that make up a fully integrated system to bird-proof any architectural configuration. Flex-Track can be customized to protect both regular and irregular shaped surfaces.

Repellent Wire
Repellent wire consists of flexible stainless steel wires suspended over a surface. These wires flex when birds land on them, which results in deterring birds from resting on these surfaces.

Bird Spikes
Bird-Flite® Spikes are ledge repellents comprised of pointed metal or plastic spikes angled in different directions. The spikes are then secured to bird landing sites such as ledges, beams, signs and parapets.

Daddi Long Legs®
Daddi Long Legs® are made of stainless steel rods which radiate from a central securing point. The rods rotate in the wind and interfere with bird landings. They are most commonly used on tops of lights, boat covers, decks and roofs.

Bird Gel
Bird Gels are an environmentally safe bird repellent ideal for use with pigeons, sparrows, starlings, gulls and other pest birds. Made from all-natural ingredients, bird gels create a combination of taste, smell and texture that keeps birds from roosting and nesting.

Visual deterrents harmlessly deters birds from unwanted areas by making use of light beams reflected from direct sunlight or use of threatening devices such as predator/scare tactics. It’s best in open areas where birds can’t be controlled with other products; parking lots, roof-tops, agricultural settings. Sound deterrents use ultrasonic or threatening sounds to keep birds from roosting or nesting.

Eagle Eye®
The Eagle Eye with a combination of Flash Flags are optical bird scare devices that harmlessly deter birds from unwanted areas by making use of light beams reflected from direct sunlight or artificial light. The reflective pyramid rotates using an electric motor, sending the beams around in a menacing pattern. The light spectrum reflected back by the Eagle Eye disorients birds in flight by limiting their vision significantly, which causes them to deviate in flight and fly to another destination.

Optical Gel®
Optical Gel® is a multi-sensory bird repellent that deters birds using sight, smell and touch. Birds see fire or smoke, although there isn’t any. They smell peppermint oil, which they hate. The Gel is sticky of the birds do touch it. It’s easy to install and safe for the environment.

Bird Gard Pro
Bird Gard Pro programmable electronic repeller that uses a variety of species-specific distress signals and predator calls to send a “danger” alert to other birds in the area.

Zon Gun
Zon Gun lightweight, portable, propane-fired cannon that emits automatic thunderclaps that deter birds and other nuisance wildlife.

This option consists of removing pest birds from a facility by means of mist net, cage traps or aggressive harvesting (shooting).

Mist Nets
Mist nets are fine net traps that are used to capture live birds. These nets are used indoors to capture birds in retail establishments, warehouses, and other structures. Careful site evaluations must be done prior to the use of the nets to determine bird flight patterns.

Trapping / Relocation
Certain bird species, like pigeons, can be successfully trapped using humane live traps.  Traps are typically placed in areas where birds are resting, feeding, or loafing.  Trap locations will be based on an initial survey results. Traps must be checked and replenished with bait on a regular basis.  Each service visit, the site’s capture success will be analyzed. Traps will be relocated based on the service visit analysis.  Water, food, and shelter will be provided for trapped birds.

Shooting
In certain situations, and where permitted by law, shooting of birds may be the preferred method of control.  Shooting can be particularly effective in situations where control is needed in a short period of time.

Smell and Taste deterrents control birds with means of behavior modification.

Avian Control
Avian Control is a liquid bird repellent for many types of nuisance birds including geese, pigeons, starlings and grackles. Avian Control acts as an irritant discouraging birds from gathering. It can be either fogged or sprayed and is ideal for airplane hangars, grassy fields, golf courses or large properties.

Ovo-Control Baiting Program: OvoControl® P is a ready-to-use bait that controls the reproduction of treated birds, causing the population to decline. This effective and humane technology is especially useful for managing pigeon flocks in larger areas without having to resort to poisons and their associated risks.

The Impact of Pest Birds on Your Business

At McCloud Services, we frequently encounter situations where pest birds have caused significant problems for businesses and property owners. From structural damage to health hazards, the impact of nuisance birds can be far-reaching and costly. Pest birds can affect your business in numerous ways, often more severely than you might expect:

  • Health and Safety Risks: Birds are carriers of diseases that can cause respiratory problems, viral infections, and food poisoning. Their droppings create slip hazards and can contaminate products, putting your employees and customers at risk.
  • Property Damage: The high uric acid content in bird droppings can corrode metal, paint, and other materials. Nests can clog drains, potentially leading to roof collapses during heavy rainfall.
  • Financial Burden: The ongoing costs of cleaning, repairs, and maintenance due to bird-related damage can be substantial.
  • Business Image: Visible bird infestations and their effects can negatively impact your company’s professional image and reputation.
  • Air Quality Concerns: Bird droppings and nesting materials can affect indoor air quality, particularly in facilities with ventilation systems.
  • Secondary Pest Issues: Bird infestations often attract other pests, compounding your pest control challenges.
  • Noise Complaints: Some bird species can create significant noise disturbances, affecting both employees and neighboring properties.
  • Construction Delays: Bird nesting can cause unexpected delays in construction or renovation projects.
