Is it true that rodents don’t like wire sponge, and can I use steel wool for mice?
Yes, steel wool can effectively prevent rodent entry when used as part of a broader exclusion program. Mice and rats are generally unable to chew through steel wool because the sharp metal fibers are difficult and uncomfortable for them to gnaw. This is why it is commonly used to temporarily seal small gaps around pipes, conduits, and other gaps.
In commercial environments such as food processing facilities, warehouses, healthcare facilities, and hospitality properties, steel wool should not be considered a permanent solution. Standard steel wool can rust, deteriorate, or become dislodged over time, particularly in areas exposed to moisture or frequent maintenance activity.
